The magnetic particle test was done even before the X-Ray test. British S. M. Saxby observed in 1868 that magnetized gun barrels affect compasses. S. M. Saxby in 1868 and American William Hoke in 1917 tried to find cracks in the barrels of guns with magnetic indications. The first industrial application was made by Victor de Forest and Foster Doane after 1929. In 1934 they founded a company called Magnaflux.
WHAT?
The Magnetic Particle Test is an inspection method used to detect defects that are exposed to the surface or just below the surface. The basic principle of this method is; If any discontinuity is encountered after applying a magnetic flux (Magnetic flow techniques) or current (Current flow techniques) to the inspection surface, it is the overflow of magnetic waves by condensing on the material surface (Leakage flux). Background paint, iron powder, etc. By using auxiliary equipment, discontinuities become visible and discontinuities are detected.
